Artist notes

Inspired by ancient and medieval carvings. Hand-built with coarse clay this ram sculpture is very tactile and uses stylised markings reminiscent of medieval or Roman period to suggest a carving from a solid block. The treatment with iron oxides gives it a warm sandstone colour with pewter highlights . Rameses won best in show at the 2024 Red House Museum open art exhibition at Christchurch.
